ARTISTS, WRITERS, & BOOKSELLERS

Bad Girls Press http://www.badgirlspress.com Meet Pari Noskin Taichert, who's life manifests a typical "bad-girl" theme, which is -- to understand the big picture and expand the box so far the edges fall off. Pari has earned an advance, and hopes to make her living through fiction. The University of New Mexico Press will publish her mystery, The Clovis Incident, in February 2004. Her author's web site is under construction at www.parinoskintaichert.com. Her writing has appeared in feature articles, columns, advertisements, press releases, business plans, annual reports, newsletters - you name it. You can contact Pari at: pari@badgirlspress.com.

Barking Horse Studio http://www.barkinghorse.com/ Meet Dana Lise Shavin, a multi-talented Artist and Writer. I can proudly say I knew Dana before I even knew she was either of these talents, when we both were working in a mental health care system that was sadly lacking in its capacity to help those in the community it was designed to assist. Luckily, we both "escaped" the confines of a less-than-efficient system and were fortunate enough to find our creative sides. With Dana's discoveries, she has mastered the art of capturing the whimsical nature of the world around her in her paintings, and is quite insightful in opening the door, through her words, on the everyday and bringing into focus those thoughts and feelings that we might otherwise simply (or quite intentionally) overlook. Contact: Dana Lise Shavin, Barking Horse Studio, 737 Market Street, 7th Floor, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37402 USA 423/266-6777 danalise@juno.com.

Thetford Photography http://thetfordphotography.com/ Meet Daryl Thetford, another brilliant mind lucky enough to "escape" the confines of a less-than-efficient system and find his niche in something that he truly loves - Photography! The studio is located in the historic Chattanooga Bank Building, two floors down from Barking Horse Studio. Contact: Daryl Thetford Photography, 737 Market Street, 510-C, Chattanooga, TN 37402 USA 423-802-0160 darylthetford@juno.com.

MUSEUMS, THEATRES & OTHER ATTRACTIONS

Hunter Museum of Art http://www.huntermuseum.org/ The Hunter Museum centers on American art from the Colonial period to the present day, and is located in an historical mansion which has expanded into a contemporary addition overlooking the Tennessee River. Contact: Hunter Museum of Art, 10 Bluff View, Chattanooga, TN 37403-1197 USA 423/267-0968.

The Orpheum Theatre http://www.orpheum-memphis.com/ Beale Street is rich with Memphis history, and so is The Orpheum. In 1890 The Grand Opera House was built on the corner of Beale and Main Streets. The Grand was billed as the classiest theatre outside of New York City. The Grand became part of The Orpheum Circuit of vaudeville shows in 1907, and the theatre then became known as The Orpheum. And, the Orpheum Theatre is truly one of Memphis' most remarkable success stories; a theatre which has overcome adversities time and again, ranging from several bankruptcies, a devastating fire (caused by a stripper?), the urban decay of downtown Memphis, and the threat of demolition for the construction of an office complex. Opera Memphis and Ballet Memphis both consider the Orpheum their home. The Theatre is truly beautiful, and offers a wonderful (and varied) cultural experience, whatever your choice of entertainment may be. Contact: The Orpheum Theatre, 203 South Main, Memphis, TN 38103 USA 901/525-7800 info@orpheum-memphis.com.

1620 Productions     http://www.1620.org/index.php     My very good friend, Kaleb Jaeger, explains 1620 Productions this way: "connecting with the music -- bringing things together is what we do best.     1620 Productions connects talented American artists with Western Europe, helping to gather events, and networking different people together ... because all you need sometimes is a little direction." You can contact 1620 Productions at: contact@1620.org.
